Main types of fertilizers

1. Organic fertilizer

Organic fertilizer is made from natural materials such as compost, manure, or seaweed. It improves soil structure and nourishes the plant long-term.

2. Mineral (chemical) fertilizer

The plant absorbs it quickly and results appear soon, however too much may be harmful to the roots.

3. Granulated fertilizer

It dissolves slowly and supplies nutrients to the plant for a long time.

4. Liquid fertilizer

It acts quickly and is ideal when the plant needs immediate help. 

What does NPK mean?

You will often see the label NPK on fertilizer packaging.

• N (Nitrogen) – promotes leaf growth 

• P (Phosphorus) – strengthens roots and flowering 

• K (Potassium) – increases resilience and protects against diseases 

For example: if you want more flowers, choose a fertilizer with a high phosphorus content. 

When should fertilizer be used?

• In spring – when plant growth begins 

• In summer – during active flowering and fruiting period 

• In autumn – only for certain plants 

• In winter – in most cases fertilizer is not needed
